I am so excited to share the special details for the woodland baby shower I threw last weekend, for one of my favorite people. Mamma-to-be, Angela, is the perfect mix of rugged and refined. She loves camping and the outdoors, but works in fashion in Manhattan. She can build a camp fire, but she can also sew a dress and I wanted the party to reflect all those qualities. I took cues from the nursery Angela is designing for her babe as inspiration for the party. She is doing a woodland theme, in teals, greens, burnt oranges and earthy wood tones. I followed suit (you can see my mood board here) and added some pretty, girlie details to make a lovely lunch for fifteen wonderful women.
One of my favorite details was this DIY banner inspired by (and image from) Lay Baby Lay.
These faux taxidermy busts were the starts of the party decor and will transition seamlessly into baby room decor.
For the food, I wanted to stick to the camping theme, but in a creative way. Something I often eat while in the woods is a classic grilled cheese, so I decided to create a grilled cheese bar, where guests could pick from a selection of cheeses, breads, meats and veggies, make and grill their own sandwiches on a Coleman camping stove. It was really fun watching the women come up with delicious combinations.
Guests were asked to paint a few strokes on a paint-by-numbers canvas as a keepsake for baby.
The cake was inspired by this Martha Stewart creation.
Thanks to Casey Masterson for the photos.
